Expectations

Here are some thoughts on how you as a TEFL Certificate Candidate at UC Irvine's TEFL Certificate Program will be treated by your faculty and staff:

  • You will be treated like colleagues from the start.
  • You will be periodically introduced to a certain teaching style as you are being taught. You will be asked to relate what you learned to what you would need to do as teachers.
  • You will be held responsible for your own learning (learner autonomy).  Your faculty will not micro-manage your work, but there may be consequences for not doing it.
  • You will be given a variety of teaching/assessment/activities and tools, but you will be encouraged to create your own lesson plans/tests/activities, and tools.
  • You will be given opportunities for group work so that you practice cooperation which will be very helpful for your in the future.
  • You will be given opportunities to share your materials/ideas with the rest of the group.
  • You will be encouraged to provide feedback to each other.

The words above should help you be more successful learning in the UCI TEFL Certificate Program.

Our mission statement:
"The Mission of the Certificate Program in TEFL is to train and equip international and domestic teacher-trainees with practical teaching skills and cultural awareness to be able to successfully teach English abroad."
